This band name rules, and before I heard the song/watched the vid I thought, man, I really hope they don’t disappoint because they’ve claimed a sweet band name- Summer Camp.  And they didn’t! I love this song, and I’m even more in love with this video. Two cigarette totin’, leather wearin’ kids in love. Must watch.

I’ve written about Teams before, so I was stoked to find out he had more for me. With his new album- We Have a Room With Everything he creates a textured ethereal sound that transcends the usual descriptive music criticism that I usually have for you all here. It’s undefined, and quite comforting that way. Next-level, if you will.

Three girl accapellas that’ll make your heart sink to the floor, your knees buckle and your eyes fixed in a meditative trance because you’re right there with them, experiencing something really real. I have managed to stay alive and mostly heathy this leg of the journey. There’s not much to complain about, swimming in the ocean every few days and playing with amazing bands every night. … I’d like to share a little ode to the past few months through the classic medium of the mixtape. NGD EP by newgenerationdudes

I recently found out about a band called German Error Message that has a sort of permeating muffle blanketing their whole album ‘To Carry Alongside’. This kind of experimental folk is welcomed in the shifting autumn season when we take a break from all this chill waving, and put on something rustic and warm, something with lots of raw guitars and soft voices. Then we put on our sweaters, and prepare for a few months’ slumber. I have a feeling us seasonal folk need to be forced to slow down a little, and if we can’t do it ourselves, the biting cold might keep us in a few nights. But for now, the heat wave is a sly tease for what’s to come. I don’t mind it at all, it’s my birthday month, afterall.

Slandercat is a dude named Jeremy that builds these beats that is a little spacey, mostly pop, and a bit obscure. With the onslaught of loopy lo fi artists that attack my inbox, it’s nice to get something a little easier to digest, listen-worthy music that doesn’t completely freak me out when my itunes starts playing it. I just want to drive my car up the West Coast listening to this. Grab the album at his bandcamp.

Slandercat- Approach

Matt Goud of Northcote wears a fiery beard that occupies the better part of his face and ages his twice over. But if you look at his eyes you can see there is still a soul of a young man swimming in the whiteness, a kind soul. He’s from Regina and formerly of the hardcore band Means and The Emerson Letters. His debut EP ‘Borrowed Chords, Tired Eyes’ is something definitive of where he’s at in life, with the kind of folk and Americana that comes out of years of playing music loud and aggressive. Sooner or later, you’re going to get older and softer, and you’re going to want to strum those chords delicately and sing about simple things, it’s inevitable.

He’s got that good, strong voice that keeps him far from any association with wussy-folk poets. He’s a man from the prairies, and if need be, he’d likely build you a deck, tell you he loves you and probably works hard, somewhere outside. That’s what I get when I listen to his EP. He lends a certain elegance to the whole flannel and beard aesthetic. He was kind enough to put together a lovely mix for the Mixtape Series, that suggests he’s borrowed a few chords from the artists below. Check out more of Matt’s music HERE.
