Wind-blown and Bundled

The hibernating years of my childhood were spent underneath considerable amounts of thermal sweaters (see: fabric that regulates body heat to keep you warm and uncool) I’m only half-sure that is where my affection for Portland-based trio The Thermals stems from. The pop-punk energy that saturates their latest album Now We Can See off Kill Rock Stars is carried by the thoughtful and heavy exploration of all the brokenness of man, and the resolve frontman Hutch Harris’ struggles to find.
The Thermals recently released their latest single, ‘ We Were Sick’ via iTunes. There is a beautiful paradox between the delivery of a perfect pop song, and the angry finger-pointing at an indifferent, apathetic culture, largely unaware of the repercussions of their wastefulness. Amen! Wrapped around a dance-worthy track, I’d say Harris’ lyrics takes us to places we need to go, even if we’re not ready to go there. ‘We Were Sick’ is their second single from Now We Can See, along with a new track ‘Time Fell’, and two album demos, ‘When I Died’ and ‘You Dissolve’. Get it here!
The Thermals are heading out on the road this fall, they’ll be hitting up some West coast dates, followed by a European tour with Telekinesis in October!
