My friend Meredith sent this to me, it’s a pretty rad Local Natives takeaway show? I’m still trying to figure it out, does La Blogotheque partner with Art Live Web or is this something different? What is it about hip bands and their affinity for all things French.. I vaguely remember French from gradeschool so I’ve been trying to decipher this website, I think for the most part I’ve got it. Check out the site for yourself- there’s some pretty cool stuff on there like The Tallest Man on Earth and Beach House.
Admittedly, I always read the Daytrotter article before I listen to the music, because Moeller always gives you a good story- he makes every song grow it’s own legs and clears the cobwebs from your imagination so you’re prepared to fully indulge in whatever music that comes out after a few clicks.
Of Local Natives- when I read,”They are in possession of the unfathomable dimensions of the mind and the body and the fine lines that are drawn between being a spectator and grabbing your own happiness by the very long tail and letting it shake the dust off of you” I knew it was going to be a magical session. I immediately fell in love with Local Natives. Their sound made me think they could be busking in front of the gates of the Emerald City next to horses of different colours. Their soulful harmonies and exquisite, with vocal chords put to good use, the kinds that would’ve been laid to rest after childhood days of school choir.
Their new album- Gorilla Manor has been long anticipated, and offers up those nice-boy songs- the ones about airplanes and quarters. Their heading out on tour with my other favorite band- Edward Shape and the Magnetic Zeros, playing at the El Mocambo Nov. 24th.

I first discovered Local Natives after hearing them on Daytrotter, where Moeller masterfully wrote, “They are in possession of the unfathomable dimensions of the mind and the body and the fine lines that are drawn between being a spectator and grabbing your own happiness by the very long tail and letting it shake the dust off of you.” How spectacular! And they really are. They are truly a joy to listen to.
