everyones gonna live forever
Did anyone catch Evening Hymns‘ record release last night? Was I the only one left out in the rain, waiting for a ride home from work? Fair, fair. For those of you who haven’t heard of Evening Hymns, they’re a Toronto-ish based band who wear their badges of the Bellwoods club, including friends and tourmates like Ohbijou and The Wooden Sky. Jonas Bonnetta’s ‘Spirit Guides’ is stunning, from the tracks I’v heard so far. It’s calm and steady, like a funeral wake in the middle of a forest. There’s talk of spirits, deer, death, rifles, stars, and all that mystical Native stuff that makes you want to bury yourself underneath your sheepskin blanket (NOT VEGAN) and stare at the wooden planks on your floor, sipping hallucinogenic teas and such. It’s beautiful, really.
The Dead Deer track is sleepy and easy, have we discussed the deer head that stares at me in my living room? It now wears a Christmas ornament on it’s antlers quite shamefully. His track Broken Rifle sounds a little Counting Crows, or The Hold Steady, don’t you think?
