Join the FWBA Monthly Mix Club

mixclub

This is my annual reminder, to sign up for the FWBA monthly mix club, where I make you a mix and email it to you on the first (ish) of every month, I also divulge personal details of my day to day goings ons, and all I ask is that you enjoy it. You’ve got three days to catch the next one.

Whaaa? No catch?! Nah man, I just like sharing music I love with people I don’t know. Is that SO WEIRD?

I came across this duo recently just as I was thinking to myself, there aren’t many local bands I’ve been digging lately. Not that they’re not out there, they’re just never on my radar. So I was excited to learn that Twist is a Toronto based project featuring Laura Hermiston (BB Guns) and Brian Borcherdt (Holy Fuck).

Where to Lie is a fuzzy minimalist track that has me dreaming of warm weather ahead. Looking forward to hearing more from them.

The Shouting Matches – Grownass Man

Debut-Album-From-The-Shouting-Matches

I’ve been meaning to write about The Shouting Matches.Peter’s drummer and other half of Peter Wolf Crier, Brian Moen got a new gig playing with Justin Vernon and Phil Cook and their record is called “Grownass Man” so it’s prettay prettay good. Filled with fun jams with feel good melodies, and a welcomed departure from Bon Iver’s melancholic tunes. Been really into this record.

Overseas

overseas-album-cover-500

Overseas is a supergroup featuring one of my favourite artists, Dave Bazan, along with some of his favourites: Will Johnson of Centro-Matic and South San Gabriel,  brothers Matt and Bubba Kadane of Bedhead and The New Year. I just listened to another awesome Grapes of Rad podcast episode featuring Dave Bazan talking about the new project, I listened to it while I was sanding and varnishing shelves. That’s right, I’m a grown up. Thank you, Grapes of Rad.

Here’s an Overseas track, can’t wait to hear more. You can pre-order the album and get a free download.

Alexander Fairchild – Tonight

Alexander Fairchild – Tonight from Brooks Reynolds on Vimeo.

It’s been so long I could barely remember how to log in to this thing. But I’m still here! Mostly making mixes for a few hundred friends over at my mixtape club, but I often think of FWBA fondly, then forget to blog, then write myself a note to remind me, then never finding the time, then never wanting to. But here I am.

I wanted to share this new video from my friend Alexander Fairchild, made by my other friend Brooks Reynolds. AF’s new album, “Where Do You Go” is out now and it’s really special. I had the good fortune to get to listen to it a while back and write some nice words about it. You can listen to him some more over here (sometimes he writes little commentaries on what his songs mean and I always do enjoy that).
