Brown Bird “Salt for Salt”

Nada Alic

I’ve been in this alt/country/folk mood, likely due to the season and the fact that I now live in a seasonal place- I’m not sure what it is, maybe something primitive about the sound of banjos, violins, cellos- but it’s music to keep you warm. Rhode Island-based Brown Bird does it well.  David Lamb and MorganEve Swain play the kind of foot-stomping music that revisits eras of romance and simplicity, leaning on influences from Eastern European folk, to classic bluegrass and Americana. In their latest release “Salt for Salt” the emotional vibrancy of Lamb’s voice is almost spiritual. The lyrics emerge like narratives for a story of a man in search of some kind of truth or mercy. And you feel completely drawn in because he’s so damn earnest. This is a stunning record and perfect for your autumn collection. Listen to more tracks here.
