The Daredevil Christopher Wright // New EP/Tour
I first heard about the Daredevil Christopher Wright a few years ago- when I had no sort of understanding or romanticism about Eau Claire, WI. As I understand it now, it suspiciously breeds some of the best artists in independent music. The Daredevil Christopher Wright bear a kind of regal posture, with beautiful hymnal choruses, layering male vocals as unblemished as a boy’s choir. Best displayed on the track “The Man of Significance” that has this beautiful echoed orchestral harmony, it’s almost got a Sigur Ros vibe, then builds on with dancing piano keys. My favorite tracks include “Darkness, Darkness” and “The Animal of Choice”. The Animal of Choice begins in the vein of artists like Owen Pallett or Andrew Bird. It finds itself in that existential tension, of nature/man/beast. Of contemplating inherent evil in sort of a light hearted way, “think those dudes were born just plain horrible?”
As described best by their bandcamp, “Longsuffering Song is the story of music makers learning to pace themselves in the long haul, fumbling the steps to become better people, allowing the terrible inward self to give way to love as shadow and light mingle in the coming of dusk, the first stars of evening.”
Their latest release, “The Longsuffering Song” EP is out digitally and as a pre-order for a 10″ vinyl on their bandcamp. They’re heading out on the road with the quickly-becoming folk/pop hero of our homeland, Dan Mangan for his Canadian dates. I’ll be at the Toronto show at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, get your tickets here.
