Gonna Be a Good Week
Tomorrow night I’ll be at the + show at RIMAC, most likely singing the words to all the songs under my breath while trying to objectively cover the show but my review is going to look something like the diary of a sixteen year old girl, with all sorts of, “holy shit, and theennn they played Transatlanticism and it reminded me of that one time where I liked that boy but nothing happened” followed by claims that it was the best show.. ever. Oh yeah, I’ll also somehow have to help Alex sell some merch. Come by the IC booth and say hello! In the meantime, have you seen the Frightened Rabbit cover of Death Cab that premiered last week? Shot by our very own, Kenny-
Last minute show announced for the Casbah on Wednesday night. I’m especially excited because for whatever reason, I keep missing Writer shows- and they’re seriously one of my favorite bands out of San Diego. They put on a really awesome show, so I’m making a point to come out and watch them. I’m also really excited to see . I know very little about Jesse Sykes but I will never forget what she wrote on one of the songs of her Daytrotter session. I remembered writing it down and re-writing it, like it was the most beautiful string of words I had the fortune or reading for a long while. It’s a little long, but it’s worth the read-
“I struggle continuously to stay engaged in this life and not feel lost and disconnected at times. This quandary has been around since day one, but I believe we face more challenges now than ever before, and I fear that we may be losing contact with—becoming increasingly estranged from, the core elements of the human experience. So how does one remain on course—-not lose touch with ourselves, our pasts, and those who came before us? How does one remain connected to some sense of the divine? We seem to accept the idea (and even revel in it!) that the concept of our lives having meaning is lost on us. How does one determine what is meaningful in a world that we perceive as having lost all meaning? I think it’s all too easy to ‘jump on board’ and become a cynic—-to give up the search or quest for love and a deeper connection with ourselves, others, and the divine. We have so many material things to value and distract us, and sadly, this means that there are more things to discard as well… and yes, “everything is up for grabs”. Few things are held sacred (it takes a lot of individual and collective effort!), and as our culture has become increasingly fractured and frayed, it’s all too easy to blame technology. I find its role in our lives to be often unflattering and even ridiculous (our collective obsession with Internet and cell phones, in particular). But, even so, I’ve found that ultimately little has changed about the basic nature of our internal struggles…we just have a lot more BS to sift through in order to reclaim and salvage what I feel we have been losing along the way. I just hope there are a lot of sifters out there!!!”-

Then I’ll be presenting at ! This one will sadly be my final Habitat House show as I’ll be leaving San Diego in the next few weeks (sigh) more on that soon. So if you want to send me off proper, then please come by Habitat House in Golden Hills. Colorado’s Candy Claws is all dreamlike and tropical, mysterious and at times, abrasive music. Textured keys and synthy layers give it that outdoorsy vibe, similar to Animal Collective or Alvin Band. RSVP at theand see you there!

this week looks like a whole lotta: Death Cab for Cutie, Frightened Rabbit, Writer, Jesse Sykes, and Candy Claws:
