We Love Efterklang (And Vincent Moon)

Nada Alic

So my friend Jonathan Dekel is a Toronto-based journalist who has been getting some attention lately. Not just because his band Neon Windbreaker has been gaining some serious traction from Toronto-based online publications- no, no. It’s because of his recent interview with Vincent Moon, who very honestly called out our National Heroes- Arcade Fire for “not being good people”. That was soon followed by a response from Arcade Fire’s management via CoS’s comments, politely asking for their stolen equipment back, and calling Moon out for his drug use. Y’know, lately I’ve been thinking how vanilla and polite the indie world is- no hip hop rivalries, no high profile dating. I guess we’ll have to redefine what indie is, according to my office buddy Alex Collins, Arcade Fire isn’t an indie band, they might be on an “indie” label, but it’s safe to say they’ve transitioned into a more commercial position. In response, Efterklang has defended Moon saying, “”Every project has been incredible and we always come out on the other side with new inspiration and a feeling that we have found something new in our music. He is sweet and intelligent, and we believe he is a genius on the same level as the many brilliant musicians he has portrayed over the years.”

Anyway, I’m mostly laughing about a one Jonathan Dekel, skimming through countless comments about what a mess this whole thing has become. Thanks, Dekel, for making my routine morning music news consumption a little more interesting. You never fail to astonish me with your revealing exposees, and super neat parties you invite me to but I always make you late for.

In other news, we’re hosting a San Diego screening for “An Island” on Monday for all of our roadies. Should be good, Efterklang is magical.
