Welcome to the first of many (friendly) rivalries in a column called East vs. West, with honorable competitor, fellow blogger Chris at Indie Music Filter. I met Chris last summer in Toronto and we recently came up with the idea to showcase a cool artist from our current coasts that we’ve been digging, and offer them up to you all to decide which one you like best. Let’s be honest, West coast is the best coast, although I’ll admit, Tearjerker is pretty killer. So now it’s up to you, if you’re feeling TV Girl, repost/retweet/like this post, but if you’re partial to Tearjerker, head on over to Indie Music Filter and show your love.
WEST: TV Girl

TV Girl is a San Diego-based band that includes duo, Trung Ngo and Brad Peterson. I caught wind of them just before I was moving back to San Diego from Toronto and it encapsulated everything California represents- the hazy, mellow vibe of being completely satisfied with the weather, so you’ve got time to worry about more important things like dance parties and biking uphill (in January) which, by the way, is such a pain. They just recently played their debut show at the Casbah, presented by Sezio; along with other rad acts like Jamuel Saxon, Lesands and Dirty Gold. You can grab their EP free over at their bandcamp.
Tearjerker is Micah (guitar/vocals), Trevor (drums), Taylor (Bass). Trevor and Micah have been making music since they were kids, while their Nov. 2010 album Strangers is their first proper release as a three piece. They also run the friends label Sore Thumb Records. Currently, they’re working on a new album that should be out this summer as well as a few smaller releases for the label before then.
