Bibio // Mind Bokeh

Nada Alic

Bibio is about to release his second album on Warp come March 28. It’s funny because when I started this blog back in ’09 I remember Bibio being one of the first artists I wrote about. It’s strange to reflect on just how long the year has been when you spend your time documenting, collecting and curating music consistently throughout it.

There’s been such a huge growth in my musical palate, but I guess some things never change. I always liked his electronic/analog sounding pop songs. It always sounded like a warped Disney scene, like someone just left a VHS playing in the living room and it started to loop.

You can hear the cracking of the tape, the muffled claps and his soft voice laced in there enough to where you’re not sure if it’s simply an extension of the collective of sounds, the instruments. I’m excited to see how much he’s grown over the year as well. Let’s revisit some tracks from Ambivalence Avenue, because it’s been a while.
