Out Like Lambs // Debut LP

Nada Alic

I recently received Out Like Lambs debut record ‘Not So Winter Waltz’ in the mail and was delighted to open it and let it play on. It’s got that serene movie-like quality, when everything feels hazy and romantic, and the notes just glide and the vocals come in mid-song with a haunted quality. Their intricate mulit-layered instrumentation is credited to a long list of members and contributors. You really get the sense that this is a product of a DIY community of musicians, where most everything is hand made and courtesy is their ethos (a testament to everytime I get a lovely package in the mail from them).

From the trumpets and the flutes to the guitars and drums everything has that spiritual, dreamlike quality. It reminds me of running through fields, with glimpses of old jazz, folk and experimental pop. I’m sure if I ever made it to Jersey I’d catch them making homemade jam and swinging on their hammocks in their yards, or at least I’d like to believe that people still invested a little time in leisure these days. You should grab one of their LPs because they’ve only got a limited batch of 500.
