Mason Lindahl

I discovered this guy on the site, saw one of his videos and was immediately hooked. His guitar playing is something else, i couldn’t believe what i was seeing/hearing. The singing is also pretty fucking great, it has a unique touch that i have never come across before, definitely not a bad thing. It isn’t just the technical aspect that blows me away with Mason, it’s his sense of melody and the feeling of it all that really grabs me.
As well as having an incredible album, Serrated Man Sound, released on , he also has a new split record coming out that you can pre-order right via . The double LP features a whole side from some super guys, all of which have collaborated/remixed/intertwined together at some point in the past, and probably will in the future. Those super guys are , , and . Check out all of their music, REALLY, DO IT!
I was lucky enough to arrange a short email interview with Mason. Im really honored that he took the time out to do this. Here it is:
Just to get a little background information, how did you come about to playing music? What started it all?
I come from a family of musicians, a lot of whiskey, beer drinking ramblin types. None the less my father is an awesome guitar player. I learned most it from him. Ive been dabbling with the guitar since a young age, 7 or so. I remember learning Garth Brooks songs and stuff like that. I used to try and learn Dylan songs from an old song books in my dads piano bench. Of course over the years styles and taste in music changed a lot. But to answer your question, i got more more into guitar playing around 11 or 12. I think..
You have a really expressive way of playing the guitar that is just really amazing. What would you say has influenced the way you play, if anything?
The way i play is more or less a crutch. I try to break out of it on a daily basis. I’m always trying to broaden my style. Like any musician I am constantly evolving, for better or worse.
What music are you currently digging?
That’s always an extremely hard question to answer. I wouldn’t say i really stay attached to many things for to long. Mostly the music my friends make. Ellie fortune, Okay, HEXLOVE , Pregnant , Robby Moncrief, Zach hill… Leonard Cohen, Karen Dalton, Bob Dylan. A lot of guitar and piano music.
You have a split record coming out via Lifesblood Records with Ellie Fortune, Zach Hill and Raleigh Moncrieff, how did this come about? Its one hell of a line-up.
Hah, well. Sam who runs Lifesblood books shows at UC Irvine under the name Acrobatics Everyday. Jesse ( Ellie Fortune ) and i were on a west tour and played one of his shows. I had the idea for the split and we called everyone that day. Sam agreed to put it out…. Zach already had his song recorded because it will also appear on his fall release “face tat” out on . The rest of us just got our shit together and threw it at Sam. Everyone was stoked.
And that’s that. Go check out his and for all the info you need on gigs, where to buy his stuff and all of that kinda thing.
Here is a unreal video of Mason doing what he does best:
