I’m so excited to introduce the first installment of our mixtape series with my friend Chris Freeman of Manchester Orchestra. Chris has really good taste in…everything. Especially music. I’ve learned a lot from him, and he’s introduced me to some cool stuff. But since I’ve had the blog, I’d argue that the tables have turned. Anyway, he once made me a mix but beforehand, he asked me what I wanted the theme to be. I said I only wanted sad songs. He delivered. And with that came the most gorgeous album artwork I’d ever seen. Chris is something of an artist, he draws these beautiful little monsters and animals.

When I first thought of launching this project, Chris was one of the first people I wanted involved. He got me into some of my favorite bands like Phosphorescent, Eels, Tom Waits, and of course, his own band, Manchester Orchestra. Their last album ‘Mean Everything to Nothing’ was one of the best albums of last year. They’re currently recording and I could not be more excited and happy for them.

Chris’ mix is expectedly filled with slow, sad jams but he claims there are pockets of joy as well. Check out the tracklist and click the download link below.
