they say you’re getting better
The unlikely indie-maker Twilight empire has the Starbucks effect for new music with their wildly popular soundtracks that catapult independent artists into mainstream realms, at least for a little while. With Twilight: The New Moon sountrack showcasing artists like & and along with giants like and e- fourteen year old girls are claiming new heights of indie credibility.
I love some of these tracks, they’re all romantic- and will surely be paired beautifully with Kristen Stewarts only face- the brooding lip bite and confused stare. I’ve never seen the movie (correction: tried, and fell asleep on Jon Smith’s couch- then we threw in something far more intellectual, ‘Wet Hot American Summer’)
Some of my favorite tracks include ‘ Friends, the rhythmic heavy bass could easily follow Stewart’s strut down a hallway frowning and pouting, with some more frowning. ‘s ‘Meet Me At The Equinox’ as Stewart finds herself standing in the middle of a forest staring, with some more brooding as Ben Gibbard sings, ‘everything ends’. The slow pumping ofs ‘Slow Life’ while a slow motion shot of a vampire or werewolf or whatever is in this film tries to kill her or makeout with her or a combination of the two, Stewart will stand jaw-dropped and idle, allowing for whatever romantic near death experience to wash over her.
In all seriousness, this soundtrack is admittedly powerful and dazzling. When indie artists get an opportunity to be heard on this scale, they most definitely rise to the occassion and deliver some of the most honest and lovely songs we could hope for.
