while you live it up, I’m off to sleep

At the risk of offending an entire demographic, country or perhaps generation I confess that my distaste for any/all Brit Pop, or anything 80′s inspired runs deep. Especially when the bands themselves aren’t from the UK, but Brooklyn. Any hybrid of the sort often results in something quite laughable. I apologize, but I find it hard for most British music not to sound contrived or pretentious. Combining that with the current revival of the 80′s, a year many of us were born out of, sounds like a kind of parody (yet should you watch any of their performances, their faces should tell you that they are very, very serious. And a bit sad?)Despite that, (or in light of that) here are two bands that I’m really not into but you probably are. I’m only doing this to appease you. You’re welcome.
After reading a few reviews of latest EP, I realized that I may be outnumbered. With more popular blogs touting ‘Higher Than the Stars’ as brilliant! And comparing their previous full-length as “much better than Meriweather Post Pavillion”. Ahem- what the hell? Another affirmed that, “this year, nooobody was talking about anybody else”. Their EP is out Sept. 22nd, you weirdos. Oh yah, and they’re also playing at the Horseshoe tonight.

So this next band isn’t British, but ‘ sophmore album ‘Everything Goes Wrong” is self-explanatory. Again, might I add that this is just my opinion. They’re definitely more garage/punk with this album, a bit more moodier. They very-well may be lovely, but all the distortion, the noise, the echoey vocals is really intolerable to me. But please, give it a listen and hear for yourself. The record is out Sept. 8th.
