Portland- based band are releasing their latest album, ‘Let it Die’ through this Septmeber 29th. What I found most remarkable about this band’s sound, as carefully deconstructed by the invisible blog panel that resides squarely inside these screens- is that they have been compared to everyone from R.E.M, Bob Dylan, Devendra Barnhart, M. Ward, Tapes n Tapes, and Wilco. I could also argue that these comparisons span nearly the entire spectrum of all. bands. ever. When such hasty claims are made to box a sound neatly, it makes me wonder just how undefinable a band really is.
Their newest single, ‘Allison and the Ancient Eyes’ is a sonic jamboree of jangles and hand claps, that easy indie-rock sound whose only motives are to resurrect sounds of decades passed, an ode to the lighter days, asking, “how the hell did we all get so lost?”. For the fear of another poor comparison- it plays in the key of ‘Summer of ’69′. Armed with enough Portland-approved hipness to hold it’s own among peers and past tourmates like , and , ‘Let It Die’ may just catapult this band to a whole new realm of hype. It doesn’t hurt that they look hopelessly, adorably dishevelled. ( Could I admit that mildly channeling Phoaquin Phoenix is less frightening than it is endearing?) They’ll be touring come October, follow their for developments in dates.
